- Westbrook Mental Health Liaison Program
The Mental Health Liaison is a position within the Westbrook Police Department established in the fall of 2021. This position is an effort to support law enforcement response to those with mental health needs in the community.
The Mental Health Liaison is an embedded clinician that can respond to calls for service with police to those in crisis or in need of emotional support. As a co-responder the mental health liaison can assist officers in calls with de-escalation, providing support, assessing level of care, assessing for protective custody, as well as being able to stay and support someone in crisis or in need of support that is not needing a law enforcement emergency level of response.
The Mental Health Liaison assists in training for public safety. The Mental Health Liaison assists in supporting public safety assisting in providing our first responders with peer support.
As of September 2021, our Westbrook Mental Health Liaison is Jo Freedman.
Hours: Tues-Friday 8:30am-6:30pm
